MEDIA MADNESS! - TopicsExpress

MEDIA MADNESS! ■Saturday morning in Bulawayo we wok to a Chronicle headline, Kaindu Declares War on Dembare. We never thought of any other war other than the usual war which is fought on a soccer pitch by players from two different soccer teams. When I arrived at BF I expected nothing short of a fighting show from Bosso players, but to my surprise it was Dembare players who showcased their fighting spirit and sent a message to the world that they were the soldiers of soccer as they were being led by the chief commander Murape Murape. For sure one must be forgiven for judge Chronicles headline as a misleading one because surely there were other troops [Bosso Hooligans] who were ready to fight for Kaindus boys, but this time by way of throwing missiles to the pitch so as to limit the damage by The Commander Murape. As if that was not enough the Bosso back up troops had to gather outside to stone Dembare supporters and fight with the riot police. ■ Now the extreme madness comes after the Dembare troops had won and the Bosso troops won the war of terrorising civilians [Dembare Supporters]. The Bosso victory unfortunately had to cost them a life of their alleged Commander in Hooliganism. One wonders how a weekly publication the following morning in their article entitled “MUTUMA STRIKES AGAIN!” were quick to say Supporters started throwing missiles into the field during the match. Dynamos goal scorer Rodrick Mutuma and Murape Murape were accused of being the main culprits in sparking the violence. So the Standard Newspaper decided to quickly dress up Bosso fans acts of violence at BF by naming Murape and Mutuma as the chief culprits? So Dembare players were supposed to just get injured and continue playing so as to ensure the useless Bosso players would get something by playing a whole team of injured players? Why did this writer deliberately ignore terrorist behaviour which was being shown by the Black & White soccer fans? Why would the Standard newspaper put the blame on Murape and Mutuma when I never saw the referee cautioning these players for facking injuries and provoking Bosso supporters? Where did this reporter got all this? Why is it that the Standard and Newsday reporters hate Dembare to that extent, why? ■And we got the news that a Bosso fan died during the violence led by Bosso fans. Why the print media and other internet publications [you know them] make the world believe that this alleged hooligan commander was murdered by Dembare fans as if they were the chief investigators into this issue? Why not wait for the investigators finish their tasks, and judges give their verdict? Why are these publications focusing more on the death of this guy than the cause? In doing so are they offering a lasting solution against hooliganism or they are actually fuelling more violence for the matches to come? I WONDER. In my own view this profession [journalism] has gone to the dogs, actually to the bulldogs! I am glad I am not a journalist by profession. To all the peace loving soccer fans of this nation I say let justice prevail so that they REAL HOOLIGANS roast in jail.
