MEDIA RELEASE - Fatal Traffic Crash - Report # 2014-62548 This morning at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Elgin police and fire departments responded to the area of Highland Ave and Lyle Ave for a head-on fatal traffic crash involving two motor vehicles. The preliminary crash investigation revealed a 2005 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Highland Ave. when it traveled over the center line of the roadway and struck a 2014 Honda Civic which was traveling eastbound on Highland Ave. The driver of the Nissan Altima, 20 year-old Cynthia Vega from Elgin, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 28 year-old female from Elgin, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital. The Elgin Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information pertinent to the crash is encouraged to call (847) 289-2661.
