MEDIA RELEASE 8/10/14 - St. Bernard PD - Auto Recovery & Bike/Auto Theft/Recoveries/Pursuit Local Reports 14-6313/6389/6390 - It was a busy Sunday, between approx. 9 AM we received a call that our stolen Toyota SUV from 8/7/14 was occupied and now parked in town. Officers found 3 M/B Juvs (ages 17, 15, 13) sleeping inside. The younger two were arrested and the car and keys were recovered at the scene. The 3rd suspect (17) then engaged police in a foot pursuit - he then stole a bike off the street (BMX boys Black/white in color - Were still looking for owner who may live on Ross Ave) and ended up several blocks later in Ross Park where he then dumped the bike and stole a second vehicle (service department pickup from workers who were in the park). The suspect then fled and eluded police (involving several communities/agencies including St. Bernard, CPD, Springfield Twp and NCH PDs) until he was stopped by stop sticks. He crashed/totalled the truck in NCH w/ no injuries but he evidently caused other crashes during his pursuit which was for several miles. The suspects were interviewed and admitted to the thefts and were charged with felony auto theft/flee/elude/RSP/OOB and were then transported to the 2020 Juvenile Detention agency. The subjects had prior contacts for similar behavior. The subjects lived out of town in Avondale. Crime prevention reminder - dont leave keys in vehicles.
