MEDIA RELEASE (8th AUGUST 2013) RELIANCE POWER DOUBLE SPEAK ON ELECTRCITY TARIFF R-Power is seeking minimum tariff of Rs.7 from consumers in Delhi from those staying in complexes when they are able to produce power at Rs.1.77/unit as per tariff agreement filed with CERC. Clearly shows that tariff rate of Rs.3.50 at the peak level gives R-Power a profit of minimum 20% after making provision for T&D Losses. Then why is government lobbying to provide uncalled for profits to DISCOMS? Why are the UMPP’s seeking revision when they are supposed to have tied up all raw material or have their own coal mines or resources for supply of thermal coal? When the agreement was filed for 25years were these issues not taken into account? If yes then why have they approached the CERC for revision – we smell a scam in the making and 25% increase is a huge increase feels Shri Anurag Kejriwal, State President, Lok Satta Party Delhi government has requisitioned Central government for financial support to DISCOMS to the tune of Rs.20000crores as they are in losses whereas in actual DISCOMS are in huge profits. If they can provide power as per contract for the UMPP’s at Rs.2.25/unit then the maximum rate for consumers should not be more than Rs.3.50/unit. Why is government keeping quiet or supporting the DISCOMS? Seems like another 2G scam is on and in last 5 years citizens have lost over Rs.100,000crores. This calls for CAG & CBI probe to unearth the scam and put the people responsible be it beaurucrats or politicians or businessman behind bars and undertake strongest possible action against the defaulters stated Shri B.B. Tewari, State General Secretary, Lok Satta Party and Advisor – DERC.
