MEDIA RELEASE Festival Dates: 23 – 24 – 26 December 2014 For Immediate Release: Masumpa Heritage Hub Initiative supported by The National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund in association with Rainbow Arts Organisation, announces: The Masumpa Cultural Arts Festival – 2014 – Ross Mission “A festival of traditional dance, arts, culture, crafts, food, music and much more” Following a year of successful workshops and training MHH supported by the NLTDF hosts a celebration of Sports, rhythm, music, performing arts and tradition in Ross Mission Mthatha to mark the 4th annual Masumpa Cultural Festival. Over the past four years Masumpa Heritage Hub has been celebrating the legacy of Masumpa Mancotywa’s commitment to exploration, community building, education, eradication of poverty and fighting apartheid during the darkest days; still an active campaign today after many years, through the Hub’s activities the legend’s legacy LIVES ON..!!!! Graced by the whose who and royalty of the Eastern Cape Province this years festival welcomes the presence of the late Nelson Mandela’s grandson Ndaba Mandela who will be deliver word of encouragement to the youth to live positive lifestyles in an environment filled with hopelessness, and a key note address by the organisation’s founder and CEO of the National Heritage Council Advocate Sonwabile Mancotywa which will the journey of Masumpa Heritage Hub throughout the years since its inception. The organization with the support of the NLDTF sees the cultural festival as a great opportunity for communities in KSD Municipality and beyond to bring together and celebrate our own different cultures with those of our neighbouring provinces – an opportunity to travel, visit and explore a Cultural Arts Festival showcasing African culture, performing arts and craft art. The fourth Cultural Arts Festival will be held from the 23rd - 26th of December 2014 in Ross Mission and has become an annual event on the provincial calendar and here in KSD Municipality. The Festival is timed to coincide with the laying / unveiling of a Memorial Stone of Masumpa Mancotywa who is the organizations moral and spiritual compass. Made possible by the generous support through the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund and strategic support of Rainbow Arts Organisation this festival promises to deliver an unforgetable experience. The Program Through community participation we have put together a program that not only focuses on the development programs we have initiated and rolled out in this year but a program that surely going to activate cultural tourism, community uplift-ment and social cohesion. The renowned SA singer Ntando – and Umthwakazi band, DJ PK, Gudla and a host of local music and dance groups will add flavor to the festivities in Ross Mission. Over these three days, we will be celebrating the vibrant and colorful diversity of our cultural tapestry not only from the King Sabata Dalindyebo but also elsewhere nationally. Parallel to the cultural festival we will also host a soccer tournament, as well as a showcase of the best local performing arts talent. The festivities will kick-off on the 23rd of December at The Ross Mission sports grounds where there will be a soccer tournament of local soccer clubs under KSD Municipality, and the continuation of the soccer tournament on the 24th December 2014 preceded by an unveiling of Masumpa’s tombstone on the 26th December in remembrance of his contribution to the development of communities around Ross Mission. After the unveiling there will be a ceremony honoring and celebrating the winning teams from the soccer tournament, music, drums and dancing as the Festival winds its way slowly up through the day.
