MEDIA RELEASE (Rabbits and Chickens) (St. Catharines, ON) February 8, 2014. The Lincoln County Humane Society has laid Provincial charges of animal cruelty against a St. Catharines man. In late January, 2014, LCHS Officers responded to a conditions complaint for rabbits and chickens. Subsequent to that complaint the animals were found to be in distress and removed. 4 Ontario SPCA Act charges were laid against the 25 year old accused. Count 1: Fail to provide adequate and appropriate medical attention (1 rabbit); Count 2: Fail to provide adequate and appropriate resting and sleeping area (2 rabbits, 3 chickens); Count 3: Fail to provide adequate and appropriate protection from the elements, including harmful temperatures (2 rabbits, 3 chickens); and, Count 4: Did permit animals to be in distress (2 rabbits, 3 chickens). The accused is scheduled to appear in St. Catharines Provincial Offences Court, 71 King Street, St. Catharines, on March 14, 2014, at 9am. Both charges are laid under the Ontario SPCA Act and associated regulations.
