MEDIA RELEASE: Smoke Shop Clerk Shoots Shoplifter. Contact Person:Lt. Cory Tanner On Friday, September 26, 2014 at approximately 9:30 pm, San Juan County Sheriffs Deputies were dispatched to the Still Smokn Smoke Shop located at 5527 US 64, in reference to a robbery with shots fired. Deputies quickly located and detained the injured thief in an adjacent parking lot. Subsequent investigation revealed a 21 year-old man had loitered in the business as he awaited an opportunity to shoplift spice (synthetic marijuana). The 24 year-old male clerk went into a back office to begin the closing process. The clerk heard a crash and returned to find the man behind the counter, stealing product. The clerk produced his pistol and told the man to stop. The man exited the store and the clerk followed, shooting him in the leg. The injured man was transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
