MEDIA RELEASE – James Harker-Mortlock – Independent for Hume - Tuesday 25th June 2013 SILEX SHOWS FUTURE POSSIBILITIES WITH SOLAR “The announcement yesterday by Silex Systems Limited of the practical completion of Australia’s largest Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) Solar Power Station in Mildura heralds the potential beginning of a new age in solar technology in Australia. The 40 CPV ‘Dense Array’ dish systems are now fully commissioned and feeding clean renewable energy into the national electricity grid. The 1.5MW plant is capable of generating enough electricity for about 500 average-sized homes. Construction of another demonstration facility in Nofa, Saudi Arabia is on track for completion by the end of the year. Operation of the Mildura and Nofa Demonstration Facilities is a key step towards establishing bankability for commercial deployment of Solar Systems’ technology. The national electricity grid runs through the middle of the electorate of Hume. I see great potential to utilise appropriate land near the grid for concentrated solar energy developments. If elected to Parliament, I would support increased funding for solar energy research and development. The great advantage of solar energy, unlike other non-renewable and renewable energy technologies is that is essentially passive, creating comparatively little disruption to people, stock or the surrounding environment. ” ABOUT JAMES HARKER-MORTLOCK.
