MEDICAL ALERT: Venezuela-Chikungunya. 7 locally acquired confirmed cases of chikungunya fever have been reported in Vargas State since July 18, 2014. These are the first locally acquired cases in Venezuela; 50 imported cases have been reported since the beginning of June. There is no evidence of sustained human transmission at this time. Chikungunya is an arboviral infection transmitted by mosquitoes. Travelers are advised to practice daytime insect precautions.
