MEDICAL UPDATE: Ebola Virus Disease Update. According to WHO, 128 new cases and 56 deaths of Ebola virus disease (EVD) have been reported from Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone between 10 August and 11 August 2014. The global total is now 1,975 (1,069 deaths) since February 2014. The distribution is as follows: Guinea: 4 new cases, 4 deaths Liberia: 71 new cases, 32 deaths Nigeria: 0 new cases, 1 death Sierra Leone: 53 new cases, 19 deaths WHO does NOT recommend any travel or trade restrictions at this time, except for persons with confirmed or suspected EVD or contact with known cases of EVD. Contacts does not include properly protected health care workers or laboratory personnel. The government of Guinea-Bissau has closed its border with Guinea, effective 12 August 2014 to prevent the entry of EVD into the country. While no cases have been reported in Kenya, WHO has classified Kenya as a country at high risk of transmission due to its position as a major transport hub in Africa. Canada is donating approximately 1,000 doses of an experimental Ebola vaccine to WHO for use in West Africa.
