MEDICAL UPDATE: Guadeloupe & Martinique-Chikungunya. Guadeloupe: 7 locally acquired, confirmed cases of chikungunya fever have been reported in Saint Barthelemy since December 8, 2013. These are the first cases reported in Saint Bathelemy and are in addition to 3 confirmed cases (1 locally acquired, 2 imported from Saint Martin) in Guadeloupe proper since December 24, 2013, and 98 locally acquired, confirmed cases in Saint Martin since October 15, 2013. Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy have been declared as having epidemic local transmission. Martinique: 14 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever (including 1 case in a traveler returned to French Guiana) have been reported in Martinique since December 20, 2013. These are the first cases reported in Martinique, confirm moderate indigenous transmission, and are indicative of inter-island spread in the Caribbean.
