MEERUT is Rising! SpotFixing the Ganga! This is a fascinating case study in Nudging people towards behaviour change. The Meerut spotfixing team provided an acceptable alternative to devotees - rather than immersing offerings in the Ganga (and polluting it), they provided an alternative acceptable method of disposal in a nearby temple. Change comes from within - when communities are nudged to change their traditional behaviour by providing realistic alternatives and using Kaam Chalu Mooh Bandh, dramatic societal change is possible. SpotFixing is all about inside-out incremental change from within existing systems and staying sensitive to all stakeholders - not radical overthrow of current systems through activism or protest.
