MEET ANITA!! The shelter was no place for Anita. You could almost hear her saying, Anita get outta here! On October 6th, this three to four-year-old Labrador Retriever-Pit Bull mix arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. She tested heartworm positive after her arrival, which put her life at risk in this rural shelter. On December 2nd, Anita was listed on the shelter’s dreaded “put to sleep” for December 10th. RADAR offered to assist with Anita’s heartworm treatment on December 2nd as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On December 11th, Susan Blakeney, RADARs liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, reported that there was tentative interest in Anita. Before a rescue could take her, Anita needed confirmation on her behavior with other dogs. Fortunately, Anita passed with flying colors and Harley’s Haven Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take her on December 30th. Anita received her heartworm treatment on January 15th. Susan had only sweet things to say about Anita, “Shes your lover and lap warmer! Shes goofy and wiggly, smart and alert, and eager to learn and please. Shes proven herself to be excellent with other dogs. She’s always up for a new adventure and a new task at hand. Kissy and affectionate, Anita would be perfectly suited in a family with older kids and other dogs, but cats are too tempting for her!” Please donate to Anitas Fund - $100 raised of $275 goal: raisingaidfordogsatrisk.org/anita #radardogs #rescueddogs #funditforward Fund It Forward!
