MEET MELANIE!! All eyes were on Melanie, and especially her eyes. This five-year-old Shar Pei mix arrived at the Chester County Animal Care & Control shelter in South Carolina in mid-June. On intake it was obvious that Melanie had a serious problem with her right eye. She underwent emergency surgery to have the eye removed. The vet also determined that she had an inverted eyelid in her left eye, which would require additional surgery. To add insult to injury, she also was heartworm positive. The cost of the eye removal surgery was provided by a kind donor directly to the shelter. But the costs of the additional eye surgery, spaying and heartworm treatment presented a real challenge to finding a rescue for Melanie. On June 17th, we were asked to assist with Melanies heartworm treatment costs. The Dochas N Gra (Hope and Love) Animal Rescue in South Carolina was interested in taking Melanie if some of her costs could be covered. That same day, we agreed to cover her heartworm treatment, securing Melanies rescue. Melanie had quite the vetting experience. On July 15th she was spayed and had the surgery on her left eye done. The next day she received her heartworm treatment. The shelter staff reported that, Melanie is super sweet and laid back. She loves to be in the sun. She is a very sweet girl!
