MEET: Ollie and Lena -- The Bicycle Gods have been good to me this July 2013. In addition to completing the restoration of my 1964 Dunelt, i picked up this beautifully restored mid-60’s Huffy tandem at the Bicycle Coop in Albuquerque. Found it on my return trip from the foreign state of Wisconsin where it’s amazingly green and they have numerous large bodies of contained water such as lakes, lagoons, running rivers, etc… imagine that!!! Also the trip inspired me to name this two-wheel two-person beauty the “Ollie and Lena.” i had never heard of this couple until my recent trip. Basically, Ollie and Lena are a dim-witted couple whose practical living sheds light on life’s absurdities. Here are a few topics and jokes: Persistence: After weeks of reading many business success and inspirational books, Lena appeals to Ollie to do something with all this newly attained knowledge. Upon finishing breakfast, Ollie agrees, goes outside and stands in the middle of his crop field. Lena goes to town returning for lunch to see Ollie standing in the same location where he had been that morning. She thinks nothing of it until hours later she looks out the window and Ollie has yet to move remaining in the same place. Lena yells out to Ollie, “what are doing Ollie?” He responds that he’s putting his newly acquired knowledge to work. “How’s that,” Lena replies. Ollie answers that in all the successful business stories he read, the CEO’s were all “out standing in there field.” Perspective: Ollie and Lena are walking down the street and they cross paths with a woman walking a dog with an eye patch. Lena observably comments: “Look at that dog with one eye Ollie.” Upon hearing this, Ollie crotches down on one knee places his right palm over his right eye and responds: “Yeah it does look different.” Existentialism: Lena and Ollie are in town shopping. They part agreeing to meet at a particular location for lunch. When the time came for them to meet, Lena and Ollie happened to be walking on opposite ends of the street. Ollie shouts out to Lena: “how do I get across the street.” Lena shouts out, “You’re already there.” On that note: meet my Lena and Ollie mid-60’s Huffy Tandem.
