MEET SCOUT!! What about Scout? Well, you can see him, but he cant see you. Yes, Scout is blind. Hes also heartworm positive. And a Pit Bull mix! Scout, whos about three to four years old, arrived as a stray at the Caroline County Animal Shelter in Virginia on May 1st. His chances of making it out of the shelter were slim to none. But Scout caught the attention of Teresa Surles. She spent some time with him and quickly realized that he was blind and perhaps deaf. But she also discovered how wonderful Scout was. He did well with other dogs and children. Teresa was smitten with Scout, and just had to find a way to save him. On May 12th, Teresa contacted RADAR to see if we could help Scout. That same day we provided an offer to assist with his vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On May 15th, Virginia Paws for Pits agreed to take Scout! He had his initial vetting done on May 16th and was neutered on June 17th. He will receive his heartworm treatment this summer. Scouts foster mom provided this update: He is able to hear! Like many children, he has selective hearing and only hears what he wants to! I have to tell you how much of a pure joy he is, and how stoked I am to be a part of his journey. He gets so excited when he hears my voice that he wiggles and wags from head to toe! He is the perfect gentleman in his crate, and I have only heard him bark once. He loves to wander around the back yard and is great in the house. He gets along with other dogs, but they have to be extremely tolerant because he is goofy and clumsy. We would love to get Scout into his forever home as soon as possible so that he has time to adjust to a new home and family before he begins his heartworm treatment.
