MEET TOBY! Could Toby be saved? Or, to paraphrase Shakespeare, - TopicsExpress

MEET TOBY! Could Toby be saved? Or, to paraphrase Shakespeare, “Toby, or not Toby, that was the question.” An eight-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, Toby arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia Toby had been previously hit by a car, and it also looked like he was in a dog fight from the scars on his nose and healing puncture wounds on his neck. It was clear that poor Tobys life had been a rough one so far. While the shelter took Toby to the vet, he was only given pain medications and antibiotics. Unfortunately, they dont have funding for more serious medical cases like Toby, so he sat in the shelter for weeks with a badly injured leg. He wouldnt put pressure on the leg when standing. Because there was no treatment and he laid on his other side all the time, he developed bedsores. On December 29th, Paws for Seniors in Virginia asked RADAR if we could help with Toby. Of course, we agreed at once. Toby had his initial vetting and neutering done on January 9th. Then he was off to his new foster home with his foster mom Erica Vernon. Toby was taken to Ericas vet for further evaluation. X-rays were taken (his leg was broken), and sent to a specialist. Sadly, there is nothing that can be done to save his leg because there is too much damage to the bones. The rescue will have his leg amputated. Toby will be fine as a tripod dog since he has had no use of the leg since at least early December, and he gets around quite well. Fortunately, the bed sores he developed are healing nicely. He is a sweet boy, Erica told us. Please donate to Tobys Fund - $100 raised of $270 goal: raisingaidfordogsatrisk.org/toby3 #radardogs #rescueddogs #funditforward Fund It Forward!
