Linda is happy to provide a report on her visit aty the next meeting on 22nd July at Lambton PS from 6.00pm. Linda will be visiting SMP Negeri 1 – Singaraja - Pak Andang (Head of English)? Correspondence Rebecca Whan - environmental architect – keen to be involved in some way. Nik Stafford – community worker / nanny / and lots of other skills – currently working in Pilbara on a remote cattle station– keen to be involved in some way – possibly even ‘school of the air’ linked to a school. Reports University Practicum’s David The two boys who indicated an interest in the project were unable to come to the scheduled 5.00pm meeting. Subsequent to this meeting David has indicated that they are both still very keen to participate in the project. David has informed them of the important of the first practicum. The young woman who did attend the briefing meeting at 5.00pm has indicated that due to financial concerns she will be unable to participate. Sue Bryant tabled an short information package for students. Action: David to organise another briefing meeting for the boys to attend prior to 22nd July meeting. Technology links Gabby IT Connections with Balinese Students Early February 2013- Confirmed with IT the necessary equipment for Bali to video conference with us 12th February 2013 – Contacted Nyoman Darta (Principal of Sampoerna Institute School)-he gave me the email address of a staff member -Krisnapati who he thought would be a more suitable contact 18th February 2013 – Emailed Krisnapati [No reply to date] 25th February 2013 – Contacted Nyoman Riasa(Teacher Training Director Denpasar). Gave him information on the facilities required for video conferencing. 25th February 2013 – Received response from Nyoman Riasa, enthusiastic to get something going. Would check on necessary equipment. However, unable to facilitate video conferencing because of lack of equipment in Balinese schools 5th March 2013 – Contacted Nyoman Tryasa (Head of P&C SDN5Tamblang School) about students connecting via emailing or video conferencing – [No response to date] 6th March 2013 – Contacted Alexandra Ivanova from IT about alternate programs to video conferencing. She suggested Adobe Connect which is supported by department April 2013 – Back and forwards with emails with Nyoman Riasa to try and connect using Adobe Connect 29th May 2013 – Set up adobe Connect meeting room after doing departmental online course 6th May 2013 - Linked up with Nyoman Riasa using Adobe Connect -as a trial run. He is currently trying to organise with a primary school in Denpasar for them to come to his building and connect with a Stage 2 class at Lambton Public School. Still trying to negotiate a time suitable for both school 20th May – Emailed SDN5 Tamblang school directly, cc’d Sandhi and Sue – about a possible link using Adobe Connect 23rd May – Contacted by Nyoman Riasa –possible connection with Petra and small group of students for 5th or 6th June with a Stage 2 class at LPS TAFE links DJ Pak Nyoman Riasa has emailed Toni Foot. We are awaiting an update on this correspondence. Funding applications None at this time Visit by Indonesian teachers to local Hunter schools Linda Ann reported that Lambton PS are currently corresponding with Pak Nyoman Riasa re the possibilities of two Indonesian teachers to visit. Naomi has also indicated that Hamilton PS school may also be interested. School links Lambton / SDN 5 Tamblang Ann – Lambton PS is currently raising funds to support their school Merewether / SMA Negeri N Bali Mandara - Sampoerna Academy Coreena – Christine Rippon (Principal – Merewether HS) and Coreena will discuss beginning possible links with this school. – Action: Coreena to meet with DJ before initiating contact. Sue would also like to attend this meeting. Hamilton PS / SDN 8 Kubutambahan (close to Sue & Sandi’s property) Principal – Pak Komang Gede Subawa – Action: Naomi to discuss with Teeny (Principal) and then contact Sue for additional information. Cultural visits Jane / Ann None planned at this stage. Available schools for links with Hunter Schools Primary SDN 2 Bontihung – Singaraja area Principal – Pak Made Suprapta High School SMP Negeri 1 - Singaraja Principal – Pak Ketut Bawa Head of English – Pak Andang (excellent spoken English) General Business Jill Hall / Sonia Hornery briefings Action: DJ to send out a briefing on our project Bambang Adi Pramono & Sculptures by the Sea Ann reported back that Bambang was not successful with his application but will continue to apply. Financial spreadsheet (with thanks to Bobbie Barker) Document was tabled and was approved by all in attendance. Incorporation All agreed that incorporation was a good way to go. Action: Max will coordinate this once DJ is back after 22nd June. Bank Account Action: This will occur once we have had first incorporation meeting and executive positions have been established. Skype so that Sandi can participate at next meeting. Action: Sue and Gabby will facilitate this for next meeting on 22nd July at Lambton PS Possible student designed logo One side form Hunter student the other side from a Bali student. Action: Coreena/Trace/Linda to coordinate Tracie requested that Alfira O’Sullivan be placed on our mailing list. She is an Indonesian dancer and resides in Sydney. She and her partner travel the east coast teaching and performing Indonesian dance at schools. Alfira is the Artistic Director/Choreographer at suaraindonesiadance Alfira can be contacted on alfirao@gmail or facebook/alfia.osullivan Translation for correspondence with Bali. Renee Bryant (Sue & Sandi’s daughter. Renee has offered to do translation for us. When you are emailing Bali and you are unsure of the level of English you can email your information to Renee and she will translate it so that it can be sent on to Bali. The reverse will also be the case when receiving information or correspondence from Bali. This will be a bit complicated at first but it is a wonderful gesture and very much appreciated. Graham Eather Linda and Trace requested that Graham Eather be included on our mailing list. Graham is principal of Hunter River High School and is very keen to support project. Action: DJ to place on contact and committee register Recent $ raised to support program $550 from Hamilton PS $50 from community member Lambton PS is also currently raising money In the future…. • Additional links with Ganesh University re medical faculty – there are keen to establish a lnk as they are starting a medical program at the Uni. • Updating Ganesh University and Newcastle University MOU • Organising family trips to Bali with visits to schools. • Suggested places to visit in Northern Bali • Webpage for easier access to committee members and others (does anybody have these skills or know somebody who does?) • Possibly linking Hamilton Doctors with Northern Bali midwifery centre • Tracie suggested possible links between indigenous cultures in Bali and Australia Next meeting date and venue Day: Monday 22nd July Venue: Lambton PS (enter via Armstrong St off Croudace St) Time: 6.00 – 7.00pm
