MEETING WITH MALAYSIAN MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND INDUSTRY On 12 March 2014, Mr. Fadil Ruhomutally, Director of Malaysia Education Centre (MEC) met with his Excellency Dato Mustapa Mohamed, Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry to strengthen collaboration between Mauritius and Malaysia in view of the increasing number of Mauritian students going to study in Malaysia. MEC is supported and endorsed by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and is the Official Application Centre for Malaysian Universities in Mauritius and is also the official Scholarship Application Centre. All services offered by MEC are free. There are more than 1000 Mauritian students currently studying in Malaysia and about 500 Mauritian students who graduated from Malaysia and are working in Mauritius and other parts of the world. The Minister praised Mr. Fadil Ruhomutally for his excellent job in helping Mauritian students to get admission into top universities in Malaysia and welcomes more Mauritian students to come to study in Malaysia. 2014 will be a very promising year as student visas are being approved in a much shorter time frame and more scholarships are being offered to Mauritian students. The time frame to renew student visas will also be shortened for Mauritian students.
