MEMO TO ALL NIGERIAN STUDENTS: NANS CONVENTION 2014. Let the process begin................... Greatest Nigerian Students, The predictive ability of the worlds intellectual class to study the past and present, as an impetus for laying eclectic emphasis on futurist calculations is one of the most intrinsic basis of intellectualism. Haven watched with keen interest, the unholy, egocentric calculated attempt over the last few months by some outside forces of polarization to throw our noble union back into the abyss of factionalization, the leadership of NANS deem it highly imperative to use this medium to set the records straight. It could be recalled that the present leadership of NANS was duly elected on the 18th of December 2012 and sworn in on the 14th February 2013. There is hence no doubt about the sacrosanct fact that in line with the spirit of the constitution of our organization, another election needs to be conducted to usher in a new set of leadership. Reasons why the election has not been conducted by the present leadership till now abounds but are not meant for this memo. It must be clearly stated that the happenings and circumstances that has brought us to where we are today are not man made. Hence nobody should point accusing fingers of tenure elongation. Article 8 (b), subsection 1 of the constitution of NANS clearly stated that NANS senate shall at their last meeting fix the date of the next annual convention. NO OTHER ORGAN OF NANS SHALL APPROPRIATE TO ITSELF THE DUTY OF CONVENING THE CONVENTION OTHER THAN THE NANS SENATE. Based on the aforementioned provision of NANS, NO SINGLE PERSON OR GROUP OF PERSONS HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL FOR THE CONVENTION OF NANS OTHER THAN THE SENATE. IT IS NOTEWORTHY TO STATE THAT NEITHER MYSELF, YINKA GBADEBO, AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE ORGANIZATION NOR ANY OTHER PERSON, INCLUDING THE SENATE PRESIDENT HAVE ANY SINGULAR AUTHORITY TO CALL FOR CONVENTION OF NANS. IT IS THE SOLE PREROGATIVE OF THE SENATORS OF NANS WHO CONSTITUTE THE NANS SENATE. It is in this light the the leadership of NANS liaised with the senate secretariat of the organization to fix a pre-convention senate meeting where the NANS senators who are the genuine students union presidents across the country will fix the date and venue for the convention. As the President of the organization, it is pertinent to stand firm to give direction to the organization at this period in order to prevent a looming disaster that may engulf the organization after the next election. Hence after due consultations with the National Executive Council of NANS, student leaders and RELEVANT stakeholder, I want to announce officially the transition plan of this leadership, taking holistic cognizance of the need for a due process that is credible and devoid of kleptomaniac sentiments of a certain faceless group masquerading in the name of NANS. 1. 29th May 2014, Democracy day lecture. 2. 11th-13th June 2014, Pre-convention/ memorial lecture for late senate president donald onukaogu (as earlier announced by the senate president, COMRADE MAXWELL SOYE) 3. 23rd-30th 2014, Nigerian Students Week. 4. The pre-convention will fix a date for convention, but as the president of the organization, I am suggesting the LAST WEEK OF JULY. In exercising my constitutional powers, I hereby announce the following comrades, as members of the CONVENTION PLANNING COMMITTEE that will plan and organize a credible convention cum election within the above stipulated period : 1.
