MEMOIR It must have been a hot wednesday of a January afternoon, the beginning of a new year. The constrictions had began, the rush to the hospital and the haste of the elderly nurses. Push, push harder! It was a baby boy, handed over to the mother with great ceremony. A bundle of joy to the mother. The boy had entered into another world, a world full of competition, evil and good in equal measuree. The boy was whisked away by the nanny to a village- kiawangenye, a place of wonders. There he grew in favour of God and men, under the careful watch of his mother and nanny. He was a jovial, handsome and playful a boy. He would often visit his grandparents place to some handy cornmeal and passion fruits. They were always happy to have him around, those loving, wise, old souls. The grandpa was always laughing, sharing some old untold tales while enjoying some roasted corn. And the granny always had some ripe bananas tucked somewhere... The boy was me!
