MEMORANDUM TO : University Community FROM : Prof K Mfenyana Interim Vice-Chancellor & Principal DATE : 11 August 2014 SUBJECT : BUS ACCIDENT IN BUFFALO CITY CAMPUS A group of 50 students from the Buffalo City Campus, traveling in one of the private buses contracted to the institution from Potsdam to town, was involved in an accident with a bakkie on Friday, 8 August 2014. We have since been informed that the driver of the bakkie had unfortunately passed on. Forty students who were admitted to a hospital in East London were treated and later discharged. One student, Mr Onela Khulane registered for Public Management, had suffered severe injuries to his leg and is still hospitalised receiving specialised treatment. On behalf of the institution, we wish Mr Khulane a full and speedy recovery. We further convey our condolences to the family of the deceased driver. We wish all students who were involved in the accident full and complete recovery as well. We take this opportunity to express the University gratitude to all various emergency services, members of staff, students and members of the public for their prompt response and assistance to our students at the accident scene.
