MEMORIAL DAY 2014 is the 70th anniversary of Arthur T. Long of Rosburg, WA losing his life in Germany during WWII on November 30, 1944. He is buried at the US Military Cemetery near Eindhoven in SE Holland. He was killed just two weeks before Adolf Hitler launched the Battle of the Bulge through the Ardennes Forest in northern Luxembourg. Except for the out-manned and out-gunned 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, the Battling Bastards of Bastogne, the Nazis may have succeeded in their drive for the port city of Antwerp and cutting Allied Forces in half. The photographic images are a selection of scenes of areas in Holland and Belgium where Art Long of Naselle High School gave his life in defense of our freedom during WWII.
