MEMORIAL MONDAY: CHARLIE We were sad to learn this afternoon - TopicsExpress

MEMORIAL MONDAY: CHARLIE We were sad to learn this afternoon that Charlie, an English Setter who was adopted from us in 2012, passed away from cancer a few days ago. Charlie came to Heavenly Creatures from a pound, and it seemed fairly apparent that he was someones discarded hunting dog (though well never know for sure). He was a senior dog, so he may not have been wanted anymore owing to his age. Also, he was unneutered, and had some behaviours that made us think he wasnt used to living in a house (which is the case with many hunting dogs). We remember Charlie well, as he left quite the impression on us with his gentle setter nature, and deep brown soulful eyes. We were over the moon when we found him a wonderful retirement home with two very devoted parents. These two very kind people showed him what it was to be loved, and part of a real family for his last two and a half years, and he returned their love tenfold. Theyve just kindly made a donation to HC in his memory, and we will use it to help another dog in need in Charlies memory - were sure sweet Charlie would approve. Charlies mom and dad said: Charlie was an absolute joy to us for the time we had him. As you know he was an older dog when we got him from you. He adapted very quickly to us and us to him. We soon found out he was pretty deaf, but he learned hand commands and was very obedient. Charlie loved his daily walk around Sunshine Park where he met up with his dog buddies. He was particularly drawn to Golden Retrievers for some reason. Charlie loved going for car rides, and when he was home, watching us prepare meals, or simply sleeping beside us on the sofa, or at our feet. Charlie slept through the night on his own bed in our room, in fact he let us know when it was bedtime! We will always be grateful we found Charlie through Heavenly Creatures. We are especially appreciative that you gave this wonderful dog a second chance at a happy life after you rescued him from the pound in CBS. Sometime after we got Charlie we spoke to the staff at the CBS pound, who seem to be kind and caring. They told us that Charlie was with them for quite some time because people are reluctant to adopt an older dog. We would like to emphasize to perspective adopters that adopting an older dog has its own rewards and benefits. When we are ready for another dog we will certainly be looking at this option. If youd like to leave a message of condolence for Charlies parents, you can do so below in the comments section.
