MEN AND THE JOBS OF THE FUTURE: Suffice it to say that we men are engineering our own obsolescence. We are doing so in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence. What this means for future employment is that tasks that were once considered our specialties, like mathematical computation and brute force strength, are being handled by machines. Society doesnt need men to climb power poles if they can get a machine to do it. It doesnt even need a maximally educated engineer if the algorithms for design and mathematics are all available on CD. What this means is that the future will require only few maximally trained specialists while the brunt of labor and execution is done by machines. In other words a multitude of unemployed men. And where men drop off women advance. For if the hunter/gatherer paradigm holds women are in a position of advantage. They are tasked with logistics and interpersonal skills. Basically the same kinds of tasks performed by primitive women who were awaiting their men to bring home the kill. The men go off a hunt and the women prepare the campfire to cook the carcass, gather the vegetables and seasonings and prepare the distribution pathways for each household in the clan or tribe. Men are removed from this scenario since machines have taken over our function. The question is how do we as men cope when being muscled out by both women and the technologies our own hands have made. The answer lies in Operation Paperclip. Though the Nazis lost World War 2, their specialists were imported to the lands of the victors to head their scientific and technical institutions. In other words to maintain our position of dominance and to leverage our negotiating position we are going to have to develop indispensable skills. Women and machines can conquer the fields of development and execution, but we are going to have to hold our position of mastery over the whole system. In other words if the power goes out were going to have to be the ones that know how to get the system working again. And this requires massive investment in male education. Operation paperclip taught us that we can lose the war but yet win the peace. Allahu Alam, Allah knows best.
