According to her, if the agreements will be initialed now, there is greater chance they will be signed in the first quarter of 2014. “Negotiations are concluded and we wish the agreements to be initialed as soon as possible to give the opportunity to prepare for signing the Association Agreement at the beginning of 2014,” Monica Macovei said in a press release after chairing the EU Parliament Cooperation Commission between EU and the Republic of Moldova, which took place during June 17-18, in Brussels. The European deputy calls on heads of states and governments participating at the Eastern Partnership Summit to reiterate their support for Moldova’s European prospective based on Article 49 of the EU Treaty. Moreover, Monica Macovei requires from the European Commission to publish the progress report of the Republic of Moldova in the framework of visa liberalization project in order to speed up the procedures on lifting visa requirements. The same statement showed that the European Parliament remains concerned about the situation of eight Latin-script schools based in Transnistria which face difficulties under the illegitimate regime established in the region. “The schools are further discriminated against and do not enjoy a fair status recognized by the so-called authorities from Tiraspol,” Monica Macovei said.
