MEP elections. The disparity between the Labour Party and the - TopicsExpress

MEP elections. The disparity between the Labour Party and the nationalist party has been reduced by some 4000 votes. At the last MEP election as in the last general election last year, labour won by 36,000 votes and today labour garnered some 32,000 votes. I would have been happier if the disparity was greater but its a start! The truth of the matter is of course that irrespective of the bad decisions taken by labour in government so far, most of which ran counter to their pre election promises, there exist a combination of factors which were clearly given a greater weighting by the electorate. Amongst these are the power of incumbency. This essentially translates itself into the additional leverage which a party is able to levy by virtue of being in power. When labour was elected they immediately satisfied those closest to it; as the months wore on and others who were not amongst the chosen few started to complain, only a few days back labour worked on satisfying the masses by granting transfers to those who wanted them, issuing thousands of cheques by way of tax refunds on cars, issuing a list of cheeper medicine prices et etc all days prior to an election, not to mention the notices posted to the households informing all of the supposed precise reduction in electricity. Another more important factor was the one which saw the thousands of switchers of the last election not ready yet after 14 short months to make the shift back. In the meantime the Nationalist party has spent this past year building itself from scratch, redrafting its statute, reconnecting with people and creating the opportune fora. It has also attempted to come to terms with its difficult financial position and has succeeded in stopping the hemorrhage. Furthermore it has also started to put into force the recommendations suggested by the report which analyzed the election defeat of last year. 14 months after its historic defeat, the party is therefore back on solid ground, it has started to redress the imbalance and in the process has managed to start denting labours historic victory of 2013. Of course we still have a long way to go, however slowly but surely and with the help of the thousands of volunteers that have come forward we are working and will continue working towards making this party once again the electorates party of choice. In the meantime, sincere thanks go to the candidates who worked so well together over a lengthy period of time and who literally gave it their all. It was a pleasure to work with all of them. Finally a big thank you to all those involved in the media machine of the party including NET, 101, Mument and Nazzjon and the many, many volunteers who have assisted in this effort so selflessly and so completely. We extend deep gratitude to all. And now, may we as true Nationalists of mettle and perseverance carry on with our work, let us remain focused on our target and let us remain committed to our cause which is the re election of the Nationalist party in the near future.
