MERCED MARCHES IN HONOR OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING MERCED, CA - There was an excitement in the air as several hundred people at the Amtrak train station and Martin Luther King Jr Way. Its a beautiful day and everyone is out supporting, said Chris Austin a participant in todays march. It feels good to have so many out to support. At least a couple hundred people joined the march as it made its way down MLK to the Merced Fairgrounds where everyone gathered to share some food, drink, and memories of Dr. Martin Luther King and the struggle of those before us. Merceds Police Chief Norm Andrade was there too along with our new Sheriff Vern Warnke including members of the Sheriffs Explorers. Other community members included Dr. Napoleon Washington, Assembly Member Adam Grey, Merced County Supervisor Hub Walsh, The League of Women Voters, Merced Superior Court Judge Marc Garcia, The Brown Berets Jesse Ornelas, as well as MOJO, The Isaiah Project, The Boys and Girls Club, The Antioch Missionary Church, The Japanese American Citizens League, The UDW, some classic and custom cars and members of the Cruickshank Middle School Marching Band. Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle;the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. -Martin Luther King Jr.
