MERLION PARK (SINGAPORE) This 2,500 square-meter park is home Singapores most famous statue--The Merlion. It is a mythical creature with the head of a lion and body of a fish, and has become the national symbol for Singapore because it represents both Singapores roots as a fishing village and the citys original name, Singapura, which means lion city in Sanskrit and Malay. The 8.6-meter tall statue sits in the park overlooking Marina Bay, giving visitors a great site for a photograph. Also located in the park are a viewing deck that can hold up to 300 people, a river taxi landing dock, and a promontory that offers beautiful views of the bay and city skyline.
