It is a mythical creature with the head of a lion and body of a fish, and has become the national symbol for Singapore because it represents both Singapores roots as a fishing village and the citys original name, Singapura, which means lion city in Sanskrit and Malay. The 8.6-meter tall statue sits in the park overlooking Marina Bay, giving visitors a great site for a photograph.
