MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH, JOYFUL KWANZAA, FESTIVE HOLIDAYS, LOVE, JOY, HAPPINESS AND GOOD CHEER ARE MY WISHES . . . For all of my wonderful friends on FaceBook! I want to share the blissful joy in my heart this Christmastide and express my gratitude for so many things that this life has seen fit to bestow upon me! Last year I posted a Christmas card from the President of the United States which I was very proud only to have someone make disparaging remarks about it which I thought was very crass and churlish and vowed I wouldnt share personal joys like that in the future, but, my feelings have soothed and here I go again! Im going to share my Christmas card this year from President Obama and his beautiful family for my friends with class who will appreciate the significance of getting such a greeting card! After all, if there is ever a time to put aside politics and petty feelings and embrace the spirit of LOVE for all mankind, it surely is now! I am fortunate beyond most to have relatively good health, a secure living, and most of all, family and friends whom I love and whom I honestly believe love me too! We rejoice every day that we still have such a wonderful Mom, Claudie Owen, still gracing our presence with her love, wisdom, wit, happiness, gratefulness and joy! There is not one anywhere in this land sweeter or better! I am also happy that I have such a kind and generous, loving and genuine sister, Regenia James, who is as different as daylight and dark from me, but whom I often think that I would be blessed among men if I could be more like her! And, then, there is Ott one of the nicest gifts fate, promlikit as Thais say, has given all of us! He became a member of our family some fifteen years or so ago and we cannot imagine life without him! Fortunately, maybe we’ll never have to now that things seem to be coming together for him to obtain Permanent Resident Status before too much longer! And, yes, we still have our love and heart-felt joy, Miss Gigi! She’s getting old like the rest of us, but she still sparkles and adorns our lives as only she can! I also have what I consider to be the most wonderful friends any man has ever been privileged to have, the best students anywhere, and delightful neighbors beyond even what I expected when we moved here! It isn’t often that you find people with whom you share so many commonalities! I say it all the time when I’m not pontificating, politicizing, preaching and being the old pedagogue that I can sometimes be, that LIFE IS GOOD! I wouldn’t change one thing . . . for, if a single thing were different, it might miss up the whole thing and I love the entire package! If I would change anything it would be myself so that I could be more tolerant, kinder, more understanding, more joyful and more loving! Of course, you know that I cannot just let this greeting end on a peaceful note! No, that wouldn’t be me, would it?! The thing that has been on my mind more lately than just about anything else—of course, among a chorus of issues such as racial tension, international tensions, and tensions between tolerance and intolerance that plague our lives always—is the deterioration of the earth’s climate and the degradation of our environment. I just feel the deepest compulsion to see that future students and relatives of mine inherit a world at least as hospitable and pleasant as the one I grew up enjoying! Thus, I will close with this poem and admonition: Oh, the weather outside is frightful Tornado warnings, oh, so delightful! Thunderstorms, high winds and floods! Now let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! The weather we’re having now just doesn’t seem like Christmas weather when I was a kid growing up in relatively rural Snead, Alabama. I certainly don’t want to make this a negative, campaigning, preaching post today, but after reading an article entitled “Losing Paradise: Climate Change is changing Mount Rainier,” it just so burdened my conscious to try to be true to future generations who will come after me that I can’t just be blasé and put my head in the sand pretending all is well with the world! The scientific article said that global warming is melting Mount Rainier’s glaciers at six times the historic rate. If you have a conscious and feel the slightest responsibility to turn over a better world to future generations, please read more here: thenewstribune/static/pages/rainier/#storylink=cpy I wish you and everyone you know and love the most joyous of holiday seasons! Let the love in your heart out and spread it around encouraging young things to grow and develop hearts filled with love! All my best for you and yours this Christmas season! Yes, without doubt, LIFE IS GOOD!
