MESPOM (Master of Environmental Science, Policy and Management) is a consortium of 6 universities (including Lund University, Central European University...) spanning 2 continents and is now accepting applications for study in September 2015. More information here: mespom.eu/news/2014-12-03/apply-now-for-mespom-2015-2017. MESPOM is quite literally a chance to sit the world at the table to debate and negotiate environmental issues, whilst learning together. In addition to high-quality education, MESPOM’s global dimension provides it a sharper edge: international in terms of its professors, its approaches, its student body, and in relation to MESPOM’s mobility track. Students are taught to mix pragmatism with idealism by encountering realities that exist on the ground. Fieldtrips and changing university environments link theory to practice, demonstrating that environmental strategies are highly vulnerable to the context in which implemented. What was most sticking, however, was MESPOM’s sincerity. Professors and staff are supportive to student development and eager to engage in new methods of learning and interaction. I feel fortunate to consider my professors and classmates as friends and colleagues. In its truest sense, MESPOM does not end after the thesis is turned in. This is where it starts. The sincerity of MESPOM reaches beyond lectures, scientific articles or fieldtrips; it is personal stories from across the globe, visits to friends in their home countries, or dinner together (years later) while attending academic conferences or UN Climate Change Negotiations. Students are taught to be critical thinkers, adaptable to new places and ideas and work hard with integrity in a complex world. I completed MESPOM in 2007; still it remains one of the most significant experiences I have encountered and given a second chance, I would gladly join the adventure again. And since its #Friday, thought to share a cheesy video from one of our alumni conferences in Lund, several years back: https://youtube/watch?v=BVAE0AYPJHs
