MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED BY SST: . How can our legislators stand by and allow this to happen? My name is [deleted] I am 50 years old. I just signed up for the [Suppression] petition because I am a victim. When I was 11-12 years old I was targeted by a man who was known to my father. He was renting a house my dad was renovating for the owner. He moved house onto my paper run and invited me in one day. It all started quite harmlessly and I was a very young 11 year old and had no way of knowing what I was about to get into. I dont know why I stopped visiting after the very first time he molested me but it happened so gradually that its easy to say now but much harder at the time. He had given me a lot of stuff and money and taken me to the movies etc. He made me play the same game he was playing, close your eyes touch me here like Im touching you. I was ashamed, afraid of him killing me and didnt want to make him angry. All these things hed said dont tell or Ill get in to trouble. He told me how he used to be a wrestler and could kill a man with his bare hands. I had pretended it wasnt happening and my parents had no idea. I had to go and tell the police and nothing really happened to him. I wanted my dad to beat him up but my dad only spoke to him. For so many years it has haunted me. I hate pedophiles and think if they were named then stuff like this wouldnt happen so much. I am imprisoned in my own skin and will only be set free after I die. No one knows the depth of my pain and how it stops me from having fun.Now it seems to affect me far more than it ever did in my 20s. On the outside youd never know, but its a secret disability only those who have suffered this treatment know. To the NZ government Please make a change to our laws to save our children from such monsters, I beg you to hate pedophiles actions like I do and keep our young people safer.
