METAMORPHOSIS Metamorphosis is not an exclusive experience of an insect or amphibian; for whatever reason, people do change in nature too! People do change from who they had been known to be to something else. You’ll hear people in relationship saying something like: “this is not the man I used to know!” “This is not the woman I married!” “This is unlike my friend!” and several other expression of disappointments about a sudden change in people. Unfortunately, some of these same people used to be so nice, pleasant, kind, lovely, friendly or cheerful. But what they’ve been through has “changed” or “compelled” them to change. You only need to listen to the stories of some of these folks. Some have been weather-beaten, betrayed, have their trust breached, disappointed, violated, used, abused, dumped, and all kinds of painful experiences. Whereas, some others changed as a result being tempted, lured, enticed or misguided. Irrespective of the cause, it’s so sad when good people change terribly. Luke, while enumerating the apostles in his gospel, sadly highlights this point concerning one of them: “Simon…Peter…and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James…and Simon…the zealot; Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.” (6:16 NKJV). Just look at that, “Judas Iscariot who became a traitor”! So, this man was not always like that. He did not start out as a traitor; he became one! And today nobody remembers or talks about who he used to be but the beast he became. That’s what happens when we allow any of our experiences to change us negatively; people would hardly remember how good we used to be, but how bad we have become. Ezekiel buttresses: “When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, but he…commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered…” (33:13 NJKV). Therefore, allowing whatever you go through, good or bad, to create a negative change in you is never justifiable before the Lord. Prayer: Loving Father, though I have been through so many things that could bring out the bad and the ugly out of me, but I thank You so much for Your benevolence and kindness I have always experienced. I rather yield my life to You and I receive Your grace for a change that will always glorify You, in Jesus name. Amen. (Kindly share the daily Empowerment Devotional)
