METEOROPOULOS UPDATE: 2/03/14 @ 12:05AM SUNDAY, 2/09/14 SNOWSTORM POTENTIAL: I have attached two maps just released for the GFS model for next Sunday in regards to the big snowstorm potential. The pic on the left shows the storm at 9:00PM on Sunday, and the pic on the right shows it on Monday at 12:00PM - approximately 15 hours later. You can see the pic on the left where you have two systems, the first is the low pressure system out of the Ohio Valley that dives towards the eastern seaboard, providing the energy to develop a new low, the 2nd low - developing off the Mid-Atantic coast. Once this transfer occurs, the new low off of the Atlantic would BOMB in this scenario and produce extremely heavy snow and wind, according to this GFS model. You can CLEARLY see on the right pic of Monday at noon how the snow (blue color) completely covers the entire NYC area and beyond. PROBABILITY: The GFS is a very dependable model that most meteorologists use as their key tool in weather forecasting, but remember one important thing here, this storm is over 7 DAYS AWAY!!! This is NOT A FORECAST, but just giving the public this new information that is available from a dependable computer model. I keep reiterating the fact that these storms are awfully difficult to predict this far out, but I feel the need to do so because this storm has been on the maps for awhile now and they keep representing something major. Normally, the big storms that actually happen, where at one time showing up big on the models days ahead of time. I just thought it would be a good idea to make this Sunday storm especially known because the Monday storm (moderate snow) & Wednesday storm (ice to rain), while disruptive and potentially dangerous, could pale in comparison IF this storm comes to fruition. NEXT UPDATE: Will update all three storms tomorrow afternoon, pre-Super Bowl kick-off. I will have snowfall predictions for the Monday snow storm as well as the potential Wednesday ice/rain storm, and of course, the potential big one next weekend. Pete Lymberopoulos
