METRO SERVICE BOOST FOR EAST BELFAST PASSENGERS East Belfast - TopicsExpress

METRO SERVICE BOOST FOR EAST BELFAST PASSENGERS East Belfast passengers are set to benefit from enhanced Metro services with the introduction of the new timetable on 1st September. The changes are part of a wider Metro investment that will see a number of new eco-friendly buses operating across Belfast including the popular Newtownards Road, Metro 4 service. Phillip Woods, Metro Service Delivery Manager said, “We want to encourage as many people as possible to use our Metro services as their preferred way to travel. As well as the new buses, we are introducing a new high frequency corridor for East Belfast by increasing the number of 18 and 19 services we operate between Dundonald and the city centre. This will mean a service at least every 10 minutes for anyone travelling between Ballyhackamore and the city centre and better connections to the Ulster Hospital and Ice Bowl particularly for anyone travelling from Beersbridge, Bloomfield and Tullycarnet. “These changes are based on what our customers have told us and in preparation for the new 500 space Park and Ride facility at Dundonald due to open later this year. “We have also enhanced links to Holywood Exchange and the Titanic Quarter. We have increased frequency on Metro 26 and linked this with the 27 and 28 services offering improved access between the east of the city and the increasingly popular leisure and tourism facilities, retail, employment and educational outlets including, Belfast Metropolitian College, Titanic Belfast and Airport Road. “To attract more people on board we are encouraging people to take advantage of our range of everyday great value travel options like smartlink and dayLink. Also due to popular demand our ‘Love Metro Saturdays’ campaign will return offering great value day tickets of £2 with a dayLink card or £2.50 for a cash fare from 6 September until 25 October 2014. These are very cost effective travel options compared to private motoring and paying for parking. “More people taking the bus also delivers wider benefits to the community - by reducing the number of cars on the road on these busy corridors - we can all take a big eco step towards a healthier, cleaner and greener future for our local community,” Phillip concluded. Timetable information will be available from the Metro Kiosk, Visit Belfast or visit translink.co.uk or call 028 90 66 66 30. Passengers can also download the Journey Planner app to make it even easier to plan their next trip.
