MG Boozer Memorial Day Note: Memorial Day is one of our nation’s oldest and most significant holidays. A time to reflect upon those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our Nation and values. We owe an enormous amount of gratitude to these men and women for their selfless service to our nation and our way of life. More than 1.3 million Americans have given their all throughout our nation’s history of military conflicts. We will spend this holiday with our families and friends, bringing in the summer months with picnics and parties, but it is important…that we remember why we have this day…to celebrate those fathers, brothers, sons, mothers, sisters and daughters who gave all of their tomorrows for our todays. As you reflect during this coming long weekend, please do so honorably and safely. We need everyone on the team present and healthy to accomplish our mission. Memorial Day also symbolizes the start of the summer season and with it, new risks. Outdoor grilling, swimming, boating, hiking and the like can be dangerous. Be sure to plan-ahead to avoid preventable accidents, such as knowing the top of Mount Fuji can be 40 degrees colder than the base! The Army’s Summer Safety resources can help you think-through summer risks: https://safety.army.mil/multimedia/CAMPAIGNSINITIATIVES/KnowtheSigns/SummerSafety2013/tabid/2409/Default.aspx CSM Payton and I are immensely proud of your daily discipline and focus on safety. Please keep it up, and don’t become complacent. It takes engaged leadership and teamwork to ensure everyone serving in Japan stays safe this summer. Have fun this summer, and be safe. ICHI DAN!
