MG MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE: One copy each of an etching made of MG Marquis de Lafayette looking at a statute of George Washington in the rotunda of the Capitol during his visit to Raleigh March 2-3, 1825 hang in the old Senate and House Chambers in hand carved frames specially designed for the purpose. One of the frames was damaged beyond repair during the Civil War by Union soldiers. A NC DAR state regent made it her 3 year statewide project to have a frame produced to match the surviving frame. Lafayette was probably very special to members of North Carolinas Continental Line and them to he in that he was in charge of their brigade while at Valley Forge during the time 13 coloniess groups of individual fighting groups were whipped into an army.
