MGTA Round 4 Wrap The Tiki Roos have consolidated their position on the top of the A grade ladder after round four of the Mount Gambier Touch summer mixed comp. The Roos didn’t have it all their own way however with the scores locked at 2 all at half time. The Roos looked flat and lacked penetration. The Suns took full advantage with tries to Nick Moretti & Sam Schoenficsh and an upset was on the cards. The Tiki Roos consolidated after half time however, and with tries to Dean Watson, Jacinta Clarke, Matt Pilven & Jarryd Humphrys ran out victors 6-3. Hornets Red acme into their contest with Tiki Blues full of confidence after their narrow win over MC Hammers last week. The Blues proved to be stubborn opponents though and the scores were locked at 1 all for much of the first half. Late tries to Hamish Medhurst & Madison Donehue broke the deadlock and gave the Hornets a 3 – 1 lead at half time. The inexperienced Blues were unable to stem the flow after the half and Hornets ran in 5 tries to 1 to comfortably win the game, posting successive wins for the club. The MC Hammers faced a daunting task up against the rampant Henley Sharks. It wasn’t long before the Sharks stamped their authority on the match with both Brock & Sam Egan crossing the line 3times apiece to give the Sharks a 7 nil lead at the half. MC Hammers will heartened by their second half efforts after a penalty try was awarded and a very clever pass found Brett Watson in the clear to keep the scores at 2 all for the half. The Sharks class was overpowering though and posted a 9-2 win. In the B/C grade pool the MT Blacks faced off against the much lower placed Vestas Vikings. The Blacks who have proven their attack is one of the strongest in this pool, would not have expected the high scoring shootout the Vikings provided them. As usual Zach Doidge was a standout with 4 tries for the MT Blacks and team mate Cam Saint wasn’t far behind with three of his own. David Coombe was having none of that though and with true Viking spirit refused to give up crossing the three times and keeping his team in the game. The Blacks proved too strong in the end however sealing a 9-6 victory. In other games Try Hards & All Sorts fought out a close encounter with the Try Hards scraping through for a 4-3 win. Amanda O’Shaughnessy and Chris Raymond continued their excellent seasons for the Try Hards, while Terry Smith managed to post two tries for All Sorts. Bored stiff showed they were anything but, with an emphatic 10 -1 Victory over sister team Hornets Gold. Matt Bueti finished the game with tries for Bored Stiff while Jayden Renzi was the Hornets Gold player to trouble the scorers. Results A Grade: Tiki Roos 6 d Suns 3.
