MIAMI COUNTY (DDN; 12/08/2014) TROY - OPTIONS EXPLORED TO FIX HISTORIC CLOCK Miami County commissioners said they want information on all options for making the clock removed from the Hobart Brothers/ITW building’s pedestrian walkway operational again. Chris Johnson, county facilities manager, told commissioners Wednesday two companies have been asked to look at the clock that overlooked the Adams and Main Street intersection since the walkway was built in the 1930s or ’40s. The clock was removed in November as part of the demolition of the Hobart Brothers/ITW manufacturing plant. Johnson said the companies were looking to remove a neon piece from the clock and light it with a LED unit that could be accessed from the back of the clock. The neon piece required removal of the clock cover to service, he said, adding finding people to work on neon units is increasingly more difficult. Commissioner John “Bud” O’Brien said his goal with the clock “is to match what was there before ... My goal would be to make it as historically accurate as we could make it.” Commissioner Richard Cultice said he wanted to make sure commissioners “know all of our options” before deciding on how to repair the clock.
