MICHAEL McHUGHS COUNTDOWN- THE TOP 100 ALL-TIME CLASSIC POP SONGS:(1955-2014) # 15 When the NYC downtown West Village folk trio recorded Bob Dylans Blowin In The Wind they probably didnt realize that it would reignite The Folk Revival that stalled in the 50s after Pete Seeger was blackballed by the U.S. Congress and called a Commie. Irene Good Night - the Leadbelly song that was a huge hit for Pete Seeger and The Weavers in the early 50s started the first Folk Boom. Its not on this list because it was a hit before the rock era. Peter, Paul and Mary hit during the turbulent period that JFK was killed and as the Civil Rights movement was gathering steam. Their pure folk voices and Bobs iconic song started a revolution of consciousness in America. The various movements for social change here all started in the wake of this seminal folk classic. Folk, R&B/Rap, Pop and Rock singer/songwriters and rappers like Arlo Guthrie, The Boss, Roseanne Cash, Patti Smith, Bruce Cockburn, John Legend, Common and The Burns Sisters continue the tradition of social activism that the great 60s trio and Seeger perfected. https://youtube/watch?v=Ld6fAO4idaI
