MICHIGAN EMERGENCY WEATHER NOTIFICATION FORECAST SUMMARY By: Forecaster, Dave Saurer UPPER PENINSULA / MARQUETTE: Alberta Clipper on the way will stay well to our Southwest. A few snow showers are possible...however, lake effect snow belts could have some accumulations on the way. Temperatures will stay near freezing. There is a shot of some freezing drizzle in the upslope regions for tomorrow. Biggest story is Wednesday when a surface low will be situation just to our NW of Lake Superior. This low will then track North of Lake Superior during the morning hours and lingering well into Thursday. The Keweenaw Peninsula is looking at some light snow, but, there isnt much moisture to work with, therefore, limited accumulations is the forecast for this region. Colder air is coming for the Weekend as the secondary cold frontal boundary sweeps by, temperatures will really fall back below normal and the return of some heavy lake effect snow squalls for Saturday Evening, accumulations are still up in the air as far as the forecast goes, the ratios is expected to increase to almost 20 to 1, this could mean a good 6 inches or better. Keep this in mind. NORTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN/ ALPENA and GAYLORD etc: Winter is not making people happy in this region as far as snow lovers go. Temperatures remaining seasonable for the next seven to days on the outlook. No significant chances for snow during this period as well. Though, Point South is where the action is heading for Tuesday and Tuesday PM. Track of low pressure is continuing to shift Southward on the model trends...So this will keep the accumulating snows well out of our region. We will see mainly a good cloud cover for the mean time. We could see some clearing skies in the Eastern Upper region namely Alpena region. I am calling for mainly flurries out of the system coming out of the Northern Plains and just may skirt the very Southern edge of the forecast region. CENTRAL / WESTERN LOWER MICHIGAN: The weather pattern is generally a quiet one for the week ahead, although we are looking for light snow to come through for late this evening into Tuesday with a disturbance. Accumulations of an inch is possible. Another shortwave swinging by on Wednesday could bring an additional inch to the accumulations. However, the majority of the accumulations is stay well to our South around Kalamazoo to Jackson to Ann Arbor to Detroit Metro...Temperatures will be near average to a bit above for the week ahead. EASTERN LOWER MICHIGAN: Drier air has reach the region after the morning cold frontal boundary has finally swept the area. We should be mainly dry for the overnight with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Then, the attention will turn over to Tuesday and Wednesday on the models are showing what appears to be a couple of shortwave disturbances (Clipper Like Systems)...First wave is passing this evening, nothing in the way of moisture but clouds...so dry air is eating up this moisture. Second wave is coming with the bulk of the activity coming after the passage with a main wave in the Northern stream will attempt to phase into this system. We are seeing Wednesday being the bigger day for the shot of some light snow...Accumulations could approach the two to three inch mark in many spots from Kalamazoo going along I-96 to Detroit Metro... Inch or so for M-59 corridor going SOUTH for Tuesday PM and into Wednesday. Again, two to three inches tops for the I-96 corridor and South of there.... better shot will be along the border counties to IN and OH. We will keep an eye on things as we get closer to the time frame.
