MICRO-FARM STOCK TRAILER The E. Kneale Dockstader Foundation has, for the last 8 years, been a critical source of support for Avon Grove Charter Schools Green Initiative and Micro-Farm Project. This year the amazing people at the E. Kneale Dockstader Foundation provided support for the purchase of a livestock trailer (and a number of related resources). We quickly discovered can be very challenging to find a trailer designed to transport small animals (e.g. sheep and goats) in our section of the country -- and while horse trailers are available in relative abundance, they would not meet our needs. Mr. Bill Aff, our AGCS Farm Manager, did some research into sheep trailers and discovered that the Sundowner Company occasionally produces excellent sheep trailers which would allow us to transport our animals safely. Our local Sundowner dealership, Lanchester Trailers in Atglen, PA, worked with AGCS over the course of the last few months to produce the perfect product for our needs. The finished trailer is gorgeous. It features a sign celebrating our Micro-Farm, and the names of the rare livestock breeds (i.e. Soay and Shetland sheep) our program preserves. Our plan is to use this new resources to enable students to show AGCS-raised animals at farm shows throughout our region.
