MIDAS is a RIPOFF! Our poor Durango has been suffering for a bit. Weve getting it serviced at Midas every since we bought because the previous owner used them to get all new brakes and tires. Every time the brakes get done, within 6 months theyre warping and have to be replaced. The last quote I got from them for brakes, tie rods, alignment and 2 tires was $1400. Yep, they said my tie-rods were completely worn, along with the bushings. The car was clunking so badly at both stop and go. We dont have the funds to cover a $1400 auto repair bill. But then God Blessed us richly! I went to Firestone and pessimistically applied for their credit card. Amazingly with all our student debt, we were approved for almost $1,000. So we go to Firestone today and they do a complete assessment of the vehicle. My tie-rods are fine! Bushing have signs of slight cracking but nothing serious. Come to find out that the last time the car was aligned (Midas), it was only partially done AND they forgot to tighten the bolts to the control arms, making the whole front end clunk and left the front wheels bowed in causing tremendous wear on the front tires. We had all four tires replaced at the same time the last time we used Midas and from those four tires, the rears were perfectly fine and the fronts both had cords poking through and one had already failed so we had a spare on. end result at Firestone today is we got two new tires, with full hazard package and a full alignment, with warranty for $377. The alignment report they gave me, shocked me. The left front camber was as -1.8 degrees. Its now 0.2, The left front caster was 5.4. Its now 3.4. The left front toe was 1.72. Its now .05. The total toe was -1.46. Its now 0.09. The steer ahead was -0.99. It is now 0.01. The right front was fine all except for the toe. It was 0.25. It is now 0.03. It doesnt matter whether you understand what those things mean. What IS important is the DIFFERENCES in the before and after numbers is tremendous and the effect it has on your ability to steer, stop and maneuver is huge. All I can say is DONT go to MIDAS! The reason they have lifetime warranty on parts is they use sub-grade parts, which wear quickly and they make their money off you by having to keep paying the labor fees every time you take your car in. Im going to buy my own rotors and pads and install them myself after I find out what heavy duty parts I can use. Glory still goes to God for keeping us safe on the road, revealing the source of the problem and then providing a way for us to pay for it in installments! God is Good! ALL the Time!
