MIDDLE. IN. OUT. This week we worked a tough circuit that consisted of 6 different speed-based exercises. Each station was 20 seconds long & immediately upon completion, another station began. This was an old drill with a new flare we experimented with & loved! A ball is set up in the middle for your down the middle block & higher to both the left and right for your inside & outside blocks since we want athletes to get around these pitches. On GO catchers begin as quickly, yet as under control as they can. They start with the middle block, proceed to the inside block & from this ball attempt to block the furthest ball- the outside pitch. It works blocking skill, speed, strength, quickness & will really show you exactly what an athlete does when theyre tired & trying to go fast. Aka- 7th inning, crucial runner on 3rd with a ball in the dirt, or a college is watching. When athletes are pushed out of their comfort zones their weaknesses are shown- its here when we can really start to coach :)
