"MIGRATORY” Once upon a time, there was an old man and one of his sons in an ancient city. It was the custom of this old man to send his children on errand at a particular time and expected them to return and deliver the message as he sent them. As usual, the old man awoke one of his sons early in the morning on one faithful day, gave him one envelop to hang on his neck as he prepared to go on a mission with assurance that his feeding and every other needed things for the journey being taken care of. Considering the state of wealth of his father coupled with all he used to enjoy, he was reluctant to go but his father made him to know that it was a usual practice in the family . On his way, he met a number of people coming out of the city that he was heading to wearing similar envelop on their necks but different colours. Surprisingly, none of them exchanged words with him as he asked them question. All they could do was to point at the direction of the city the young man was heading to. Another amazing thing about these people was that many of them were crying while few were smiling and a number of them were just moody. At the gate of the city, he met another old man, very stricken in age who repeatedly asked him whether he was determined to enter the city or not . His positive response made the old man to give him every necessary clue about the city and a seed which he expected him to plant as soon as he got there. Also, the old man assured him that he’d meet him at the exit of the gate on his way back from the city. When he got there, he was received with opened arms. He settled down and planted the seed and nourished it as instructed . The seed germinated, grew up and became fruitful even to the point of becoming a huge source of revenue to this young man . Having became wealthy, he acquired everything that his eyes could behold; fleet of cars, mansions, wives, servants and many more. In fact, he enjoyed himself to the fullest because life smiled on him. In this same city, there was another old man who was richer than this young man but simply chose to play a philanthropist role while the young man considered him being foolish. His close associates were not happy with his lifestyle and tried to offer a piece of advice to him but all fell to his deaf ears. After a long time of waiting of the old man at the gate of the city, he paid him a surprise visit in his empire one night and invited the young man for a talk at the gate of the city. Every attempt by this young man to persuade the old man to experience a little out of his wealth was rebuffed as he (old man) claimed that he had enough. Surprisingly, the young man was hurried out of the city without being allowed to change his wears let alone picking anything of his valuables. When they got to the gate of the city , the old man asked him to display the envelop hidden under his wears so that others might see it as he had seen others . Besides, he told him to look back at the city where he was coming from. He was sad to know that he would not return there because his father who sent him an errand had been waiting for his arrival. QUESTION: What lesson can you deduce from this piece?
