MILES SAMPA, NO ORDINARY LEADER..... Miles Sampa’s rise to prominence both as a politician and businessman is not by coincidence or a fluke. It is as a result of a vision that has been meticulously structured and implemented. In a survey on the official website of the republican president, the late Michael Sata, Miles Sampa was voted the best performing Member of Parliament by both his peers and the public. He achieved this through structural developments in his constituency Matero, his contribution to the political and economic development of the nation as a whole, and his philanthropic work. Development in Matero Constituency In a show of selfless leadership, Miles Sampa used his gratuity as collateral to acquire a loan from Indo–Zambia bank that he used to empower the youths through the metro cab project. This has eased the greatest hurdle of accessing finance that most youths face in starting up a business. Ironically, for politicians that make a lot of promises before elections and fail to deliver after being elected, Miles Sampa’s achievements in Matero constituency are almost too numerous to mention. Constructed Houses for Mulongoti Police Station; Bought a Brand new Ambulance, Fumigated all clinics for bedbugs and Courtesy of Chinese ambassador Zho, painted walls of Chingwere clinic. Miles Sampa also ensured that most of the major Roads in the constituency were tarred, and in an effort to reduce road congestion, launched the clamping of trucks that were wrongly parked in the industrial area. The constituency also acquired computers for Matero Boys secondary School. These are but a few developments that Miles Sampa has initiated in his constituency. A land mark achievement by any standard. Contribution to National development As finance deputy minister Miles Sampa together with Dr Bwalya Ngandu, Muchinga province permanent secretary, embarked on a two week road-show in London and New York to woe international financiers to sign up for the first $750million Euro-Bond in 2012. The $750 million Euro bond has been allocated in national development projects such as the procurement of infrastructure rehabilitation materials, rolling stock, and acquisition of track rehabilitation and maintenance services for Zambia Railways; the modernisation of the health sector in particular the University Teaching Hospital, Livingstone General Hospital, Kitwe General Hospital, and Ndola General Hospital; the general improvement of the road infrastructure in the Link 8000 programme and the Kitwe – Chingola highway. Part of the $750 million Euro was also used in various projects aimed at improving power supply by ZESCO. Miles Sampa has also served in various portfolios in government including Deputy Minister of Finance, Southern Province Minister and currently as Deputy Minister of Commerce. Philanthropy Miles has been described by many people, in all cycles of life has having the proverbial ‘Big Heart.’ This is mainly due to his compassion, humanity and generosity. When a little baby was dumped in a plastic bag and left to die, Miles Sampa didn’t hesitate in adopting him and named him Moses. Moses is now being raised in a loving family environment, and what a difference it has made to Moses life, a baby who wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped was starring at death in the face. Miles Sampa’s generosity does not end there, when one of his constituents was brutally murdered, he offered a bounty for anyone that would help catch the murderers. In recognition for all his works, Miles Sampa is a recipient of various awards including the Leadership Excellence Award by the Mwape Peer Awards in New York.
