MILIKA HOPOI NGAUE HE WHITE HOUSE, USA Thursday, March 20, 2014 - 09:00 Washington D.C., U.S.A An internship in the Office of the First Lady at the White House has inspired Milika Hopoi, a Tongan, to seek a future in the USA diplomatic service. Milika told Matangi Tonga that at the completion of her internship she has a dream of either “working at a US Embassy or being a US Ambassador …” Milika, has been studying at Oregon State University and is among a group of young people who entered internships at the White House early this year. She said that interning in the Office of the First Lady has been “nothing short of amazing! For example, last month I helped to escort more than 100 middle school and high school students to the South Lawn for the France State Arrival. It was incredible to see their eyes light up with excitement as the President visited with them…” Milika is the only child of the late Tevita Hopoi and Katokakala Fakapelea Kavapalu. Tevita passed away before Milika was born and Katokakala married Ofa Kavapalu. The family migrated and settled in Oregon, USA.
