MILK : MOTHERS UNITE FOR EAST TIMOR, SUPPORT NOW! Mothers Unite for East Timor (MILK) was designed not only to raise money for East Timorese mothers but to ask us all to consider how the lowly status of women discourages breast feeding and safe birth practices in traditional communities in developing countries. Founder of MILK Kirsty Sword Gusmao, wife of East Timor’s Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, said MILK is a statement of solidarity with women in East Timor. Breastfeeding is a symbol of nurturing. By uniting women across borders in this simple act we will highlight the importance of maternal and child health and raise money to empower East Timorese women, Kirsty Sword Gusmao said. All proceeds from MILK will fund the Alola Foundations development programs in East Timor. By helping women through education and maternal health services we can turn Alola’s vision of Strong Women Strong Nation into a reality. Alola specifically supports womens programs across East Timor and a small amount of money creates a large amount of good for this community.
