MINGORA: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti inaugurated the 84-megawatt Matiltan Hydropower Project in Kalam valley of Swat district on Wednesday. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the chief minister said the province would be able to generate 2,100 megawatts electricity as 24 projects in the power sector through the Hydropower Generation Action Plan would be completed in the next five to seven years in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Haider Hoti said the provincial government had doubled the royalty for the areas where power was generated. He said that in future 10 percent royalty from the powerhouses’ income would be spent in the area where the projects were located. The chief minister pointed out that the residents of Matiltan and Kalam would receive Rs260 million from the Matiltan Hydropower project under the 10 percent royalty policy of the provincial government. He said the project would generate more than Rs2.5 billion revenue for the province. He said 250 persons from the area would be employed at the Matiltan Hydropower Project. He added that the Daral Khwar Project, also located in Swat, would generate Rs100 million as royalty for the residents. He announced Rs120 million development package for PK-85 provincial assembly constituency. Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation-stone for the six kilometres long tunnel-based Matiltan Hydropower Project, which is estimated to cost Rs15.140 billion.
