MINI BARCELONA REPORT! So, me and Nell just got back from Barca, - TopicsExpress

MINI BARCELONA REPORT! So, me and Nell just got back from Barca, and whilst museum-ing around stuffing our fat little faces, tried to visit some of the numerous comic shops there. The first one we checked out was Norma Comics, which was located in a sort of geek oasis, a manga/anime shop, toy shop and a Games Workshop all nestled near each other. Large premises, lots of variety. I realised Norma seem to be some sort of publishing/distribution thing, so I guess this is the equivalent of say, Titan having a shop. Next up was Continuara, the shop was a bit smaller, but crammed with tons of stuff, also a bit of original art, downstairs was closed, but we accidentally stumbled across it again the next day and it was open, rammed with back issues and manga. Next, on some crazy little alleyway we found Arkham Comics, which, sadly were closed for lunch so we sacked it off. Window was full of Adventure Time tat and those stupid Funko figures. Towards the end of the last day, I managed to divert the walk back to the hotel (Nell was very patient, even with sore feet) and we found Llibreria Universal. An unassuming doorway leads into a very nice big space packed with a wide variety of comics and toys. Nell mentioned to the chap about some of the shops in London and he said he was a fan of Orbital and Gosh, which I would liken this one to. We also stumbled across Fatbottom comics, that looked more specialised in self-published books and zines, a little like Nobrow perhaps, but he was shutting shop and I forgot to take a photo. Looked pretty. I think we managed to find maybe half of the comic shops in the city, and we were both impressed. Also, it looked like every shop we went in had prominent large displays of characters like Asterix and Corto Maltese, and not a lot of Superhero tat. I was expecting to see most of the US big two titles on sale but Id say 99% of everything was in Spanish, the monthly titles seemingly reprinted exactly the same but translated by (I think) Panini. Tons and tons of awesome looking stuff, which I guess only a small percentage has been translated into English. GOOD WORK, BARCELONA!
